March 25: Ski from Pielpajärvi
The landscape was even more photogenic on the way back.
Lengthening tree shadows.
The trees like a gateway to the upcoming pond.
A beefy shelter at the shore of the pond the trail was on.
Just after this stretch lurked the esker, which we had to conquer all over again.
This may have been the only locational sign on the trail.
Segregation of trails.
Blue snow.
Here's the rock field again.
How is this even possible.
Back through the young forest, with Inarijärvi visible straight on in the distance, I think.
Animal trax.
The one road that the trail crossed.
Back onto Inarijärvi.
Palimpsestuous.
Shadows really lengthening by now.
A lakeside outcropping, maybe an island.
Back near the trailhead at Inari, lots of activity.
Almost there.
And now back at Vasatokka, the sun still just up.
After a basically cloudless day, just a little bit of cirrostratus at sunset.
But then it was clear again after dark. Can you see the aurora?
The aurora again, with Auriga and Perseus above it.
