February 15: trip back from Utö
The departure and long trip back to Helsinki.
One last morning shot, soft sky again.
Unusual sub-cloud light.
The island to the west of the hotel, Finnskär.
Later, sun.
Heading to the ferry.
On the ferry, about to depart. It was nice to have a daytime ferry ride this time so we could see what was going by.
About to untie the ropes.
Wake foam.
Clouds + lighthouse, starting to recede.
Continuing to move out.
You want antennae? I gotcher antennae right here.
Lighthouse still visible.
Can you see it?
This is Jurmo, a nearby island, nearly uninhabited, much flatter and almost treeless.
The Jurmo dock.
Sun + darkness.
Amazingly, the Utö lighthouse remained visible for a couple of hours, even as it neared occlusion by the horizon. Here it's the tiny vertical mark near the center of the horizon, about a third of the way from the prominent lighthouse to the lefthand mirage-cut island. This may have been a shot through my binoculars, I don't really remember.
Aspö again, looking more clement this time.
Through the...ship...arch.
Berghamn, another stop along the way.
An old manse or something close to Pärnäs.
Unloading at Pärnäs.
The floor is made of water.
Impressionistic view from the bus.
Ice floes.
A jetty right next to the car ferry dock.
Getting off the car ferry.
The opposite ferry (the one going in the other direction).
Another landscape impression.
The lines of lights along the highway swooped all over as we neared Helsinki after dark.
