April 25: Southern Finland tour – Tampere Cathedral
We next visited Tampere Cathedral, designed by the Jugend/National Romantic architect Lars Sonck and completed in 1907.
Emerging view.
The west face.
A peek up into the balcony area from the nave.
In the center of the nave vault is this serpent, just one of the famous and controversial frescoes in the Cathedral, which were painted by Hugo Simberg.
Entasitic columns.
Column detail.
Column bulbs.
Across the nave.
The rather cute organ console.
Whoa, that's surprisingly computer-age-looking.
The quite sturdy pulpit.
Another rose window.
Toward the back of the right aisle.
As seems to be the norm in Jugend/N.R. architecture, totally awesome hardware.
Bits of sun.
A collage of elements.
A fairly complete view on the way out.
