April 23: Southern Finland tour – setting off
A centerpiece of the second half of the semester was a tour through the southern part of Finland to see the cities of Turku, Tampere, and Jyväskylä, as well as a number of works of architecture in other places along the way, particularly Aalto projects.
On the morning of departure: Helsingin Yliopisto library with a soft sky beyond.

Near where we met to board our tour van, in the Eira neighborhood in the southwestern end of downtown, an old observatory, I believe. Eira, like Skatta, is a great center of Jugend style within Helsinki.

We took the same highway toward Turku as on our way to Utö.
