May 17: trip to Utö – ferry 2
The rest of the ferry ride to Utö as the afternoon wore on and the shadows lengthened.
This is unequivocally Jurmo, given the island's flatness and lack of trees. (Note that there is another Jurmo in the archipelago, a larger, wooded, and more settled island in Åland. The two are easy to distinguish because this one looks like the moon.)
Utö just coming into view on the horizon!
Looking back toward Nötö and Aspö to the north.
A rock marker glides by (relatively speaking).
Possibly another part of the Jurmo shore.
A pair of range markers on Jurmo. The rear one must be huge compared to the shoreside one!
Sky land sea. (Range marker.)
Moonboathouse.
Big sky over the moonboathouse.
Here we are at the Jurmo landing, getting into golden hour.
Black and white figures, intermediate ground.
Adjacent to the landing, an unintentionally rather modernist, austere composition of buoys, dock, breakwater, and island beyond.
A bunch of things at various angles.
YEAHHH Jurmo!!!
Meanwhile, alongside, some rope foreshortening.
From back out on the open water, Jurmo as thickened horizon.
All the wood that we precut back at TKK.
Aha! I see some familiar things! Also, that building on the foreground looks possibly drum-shaped; curious.
Late afternoon froth.
A rather alien-looking beacon.
The way down to the hold.
Utö with everything suddenly becoming quite clear.
On an uninhabited island near Utö, Finnskär, that we passed by, a white cairn and...something else. Curiouser and curiouser.
Almost there! The Havshotel complex is just in view to the right...
and front and center here. It's like seeing old friends again.
An anticipatory mood.
The village, looking positively bustling.
Late afternoon antennae.
