May 22: around Turku 2
We still had three or four more later-afternoon hours to explore around town after leaving the Linna.
We crossed the river on this little ferry, in order to check out the left bank.
Thanks, ferry! Therry.
There it goes, back at the other side already. I wonder how many trips it makes in a day, and how many of its operators have gone insane.
YO DAWG I HERD U LIKE BOATS SO WE HUNG A BOAT FROM UR BOAT SO U CAN BOAT WHILE U BOAT
YO DAWG I HERD U LIKE BOATS SO WE PUT A BOAT IN UR BOAT AND WE PUT SOME BOATS ON THAT BOAT SO U CAN PLAY WITH BOATS WHILE U SIT IN A BOAT ON UR BOAT WHILE U BOAT
This sounds eerily familiar.
Got a real prickly déjà vu here, as if I'd seen the places in those photographs earlier that day.
This underbridge got a real TWA Terminal vibe.
Cool internal structure. Boardform concrete is used in such seemingly unlikely places in Finland.
Hey wassup Turku Main Library?
Still lookin' good.
We stopped back in at the Maalaistentalo for refreshment at a bar named Alvar (aptly), and it had these nice Aalto lights and chairs, as see below.
In a glass of our own
Turun Jugend.
We found ourselves up on a high outcropping, Puolalanmäki I think...
...so steep on the north side that there were stairs to get down to the railway station area. A bit of foreshadowing, as you will shortly see.
At the main railway station, waiting to take the train a short way down to the ferry terminal.
Zooming by the Linna.
