April 23: Southern Finland tour – Paimio Sanatorium 2
More from the Paimio Sanatorium.
A cool old elevator with a view outside.
The handles to the patients' rooms were designed to avoid getting sleeves caught on them.
Balconies with curious profiles.
The end of the main patient wing, surprisingly narrow.
The south face of the patient wing.
The doctors' residences were in these buildings a distance away.
What seems to be a fountain, in disuse.
The whole height of the patient wing.
Some large trees had unfortunately recently been cut down.
I forget what this wing is, but it's the glazedest of all of them.
It's even more surprisingly narrow than the other wing.
The northeast side of the building.
The back of the rounded-edge wing: only southern light, no northern.
I think this is part of the crematorium, which was a necessary part of the complex but was kept out of sight of the main patient areas.
There are a whole bunch of curious volumes on the service side of the sanatorium.
