May 13: Uspenski Cathedral
After months of intentions, I finally paid Uspenski a visit.
There were some way baroque semi-rainclouds around that did some sprinkles on the walk over.
Up the cathedral hill.
The cathedral, drenched in sky drama.
The apse.
Rather impressive columns.
Sun shenanigans.
Votive candles; the surface is oiled.
So much gold!
Spying on a side spire.
Saints in the shadows.
The dome. The diffused sunlight is quite lovely.
A group of Russian tourists coming to check it out.
Sun reach.
The brick craftsmanship is just spectacular.
Raincloud vs. cathedral.
The cathedral in the process of getting sprinkled on.
Gold, copper, and bricks.
The bell tower.
It looks like a cloud! Wow!
You can see the city panorama in the onions, a little.
This is the back side of the big old brick wharfy building below Uspenski; this greenhouse/terrace construction was always rather intriguing.
More bricks.
Shadow bricks.
The little park by the cathedral, getting all flowery.
A glimpse of Aeolus and Luotsikatu.
Some high contrast along Kruunuvuorenkatu.
Back in Merisotilaantori, more weather contrast.
